Sambal/ Candle-Nut Sambal (Tasty Sambal)
Super easy Indonesian sambal, our family loves spicy food, so the simple heat is alway appreciated. The Candle nuts add another texture and flavour as well.
Serves: 5-6 people
3 candlenuts (roasted)
2-3 red finger-length chilies
5 bird’s-eye chilies (cabe rawit)
- Simmer both types of chilies in water for 2 minutes.
- Gently fry the candlenuts in a dry pan until golden,
- Then chop the candlenuts and place in a mortar or processor with the chilies. Grind until smooth.
- Note that candle nuts need to be cooked, otherwise they cause stomach upsets!
